A Message from the Senior Warden and Stewardship Team

Dear Emmanuel Community,

2020 has presented significant challenges and uncertainty for us all. But the resilience of

our congregation has been striking and we have continued to live into our Vision, although

in different ways from those we envisaged this time last year.

We are overwhelmingly grateful for the continued strong pledging support that you have

demonstrated through these challenging times. Meanwhile. the Vestry and Finance

Committee have worked closely with the Staff to monitor our financial situation and revise

spending to reflect changing conditions. Highlights include:

  • Fully maintained salary and benefits for our wonderful staff

  • Delayed discretionary spending, but preserved essential property maintenance, such as the replacement of failed furnaces in the Christian Education building

  • Fully funded our outreach commitments

  • Migrated services to on-line, enabled by IT improvements in 2019

  • Equipped the church with cleaning equipment and supplies, including an electrostatic cleaner, to support re-opening protocols

  • Provided targeted rent-relief for our tenants

Next year we hope and are planning for a return to more normal operations with in-person services and programs. And, as resources permit, we intend to re-address some goals from this year that have been delayed in fulfilment, including:

  • Expanded Children’s and Youth programs, including mission/outreach opportunities

  • More support for our larger Community events: Fall Festival, Christmas, Easter and intergenerational ministry

Pledges represent approximately 75% of our total income, thus form the foundation of our financial planning for 2021. Please join us in keeping Emmanuel’s programs strong in 2021.

In gratitude,

Michael Spencer                     Paneen Davidson
